Michel Chaudun Chocolates - Paris
It happened that we came upon Michel Chaudun on our way to our first dinner in Paris, at L’Affriole. I’d thought that we would just admire his clever and renowned chocolate sculpting, and taste a truffle or two, but after purchasing boxes of paves and truffles, Chad and I found ourselves racing back to our apartment so that we could refrigerate the chocolates within 1/2 hour (as suggested by the store clerk, since it was so hot in Paris) and then race back to L’Affriole.
And it was worth it. I liked the truffles well enough, though I think that the chocolate overpowered the flavorings just a tad, but the paves, which I almost didn’t try because they seemed so plain, were a revelation… so seemingly simple… and yet so smooth and silky, and just poised to melt in your mouth. They’re definitely worth arriving late and breathless to dinner.

I visited Michel Chaudun in spring ‘06 and it was the best chocolate experience of my life. The most amazingly flavorful and uniquely made chocolate I have ever tasted. A man who knows his chocolates and a store hidden enough to keep prices well worth the visit. We sampled his truffles and had to buy two large boxes of them. Delicious!

A friend just returned from Paris, and brought me some nougats and some chocolat from Michel Chaudun. Damn it was good!

I am having a pave as we speak. Just got back from Paris, and I don’t know which I like better, Michel Chaudun or Maison du Chocolate! The eclairs at Maison are heavenly! The French girls walk down the street eating them. It’s fun, the French just walk into a shop, order a square of chocolate, and they’re off. Don’t we all love the lifestyle of the Parisienne’s?!
