OOOH! I love potato chips and chocolate. :) I'm working on a bar right now that includes it. :)

And I like Japanese gummies... Their flavor is better, and I like the softer texture. I got some agar agar to experiment with, so maybe I can make something like them.

I didn't know that the Twix cookie changed!!?!?

Ah, peanut butter in chocolate... I'm trying to think of a new twist on it... but I also feel the need to make my own peanut butter... and I laugh when I think about my mini-prep food processor attempting it.... :)

I actually have a big island candies choclate bar -- or maybe its just a block of chocolate covered potato chips that i brought back for you and CB from hawaii. I keep forgetting -- hopefully i will see you guys before it goes bad -- i have no idea how to store it properly.

japanese chocolates. i know a lot of ppl dont like them but they are some of my favorite chocolates of all time.

twix.. isnt as good anymore.. I had a twix the other day -- what did they do to they cookie?? Its different now i was completely depressed. but ive always had a soft spot for reeces, kit kat and whatchamacallits... i recently bought 2 bags (yes 2) of peanut butter kisses... *sigh*

Julia - Thank you! I'm so glad that you're enjoying Wild Flour Breads!!!! It's such a special place. I went there a month before I left Napa and stocked up on their breads to freeze... so I was able to have it several times a week. :)

I'm always thinking about ways to add crunch to my bars -- so I bought some hard pretzels to try, since, as far as I can tell, they might be a major reason why the Take 5 has such a fan base? If they work, I'll figure out how to make the pretzels myself. I'll also experiment with corn flakes... but I'll have to buy those. :)

And I'm going to try to use rose flavoring as a component in a raspberry bar. I thought about adding lychee, too, and making a sort of Ispahan candy bar in tribute to Pierre Herme, but I'm not sure if there would be one too many strong flavors, since chocolate will also be involved... but I guess there's only one way to find out. :) Hmmm... crystallized rose petals on top might be a nice way to add crunch and flavor...

And you're right -- one thing that I've found so far... salt makes everything better. The shortbread recipe that I'm using has a nice kick of salt. The only downside is that it makes you eat the bar so much faster! :)

Garrett - hehehe

First, I love your blog. I have been visiting it since this fall and I have to thank you for letting me know Wild Flour Breads existed. I don't know how I lived without their sticky buns and Egyptians before.

That said, I also completely forgot Take 5 in the survey (I was the one who kept coming back to Rose flavoring). Other candies I love, but can't ever seem to find in the U.S. are Kit Kat Ball (as far as I can tell only available in France --sort of like Maltesers, but the textures and chocolate to malt ratio is different), and Cosmics by Milka, which are sort of like cornflakes in chocolate (so I wonder if the Ritter Sport corn flakes in chocolate mentioned above are similar). Cosmics also contain chocolate covered peanuts, but I can do without those.

I love Snickers for the peanut flavored nougat. I don't particularly want the nuts themselves, but the flavor n the nougat really hits the spot. For some reason I can't quite pinpoint, Milky way doesn't really work for me even though it is nothing but delicious caramel and nougat. Perhaps it's the lack of salt?

I really want to try your homemade Twix, so I hope you make these avaliable soon!

Gary - Yeah, the elusive wafer. I haven't figured out a way to make it at home for a candy bar, but I have a scheme for another sort of thin, crunchy layers that I'll be trying out soon.

Lida - I have a whole range of salts from around the world that I want to try out to play around with the salty/sweet combinations even more. And since those salt crystals are so big, they'd add even more crunch.

And the Take 5 has more of a following that I realized... but now it makes sense to me, since it combines all of the most popular components! I have a search going for a crisp pretzel cracker recipe, or I may try for a substitution.

In the survey I said Frigor, but Kit Kat or Kägi-fret is definitely a runner-up. Love good chocolate with a wafer crunch.

Doug - One day that pretzel stick recipe will find me... one day... :)

fattypr - Yeah, Kit Kat's a solid standby, but I would end up with it by default, rather than by enticement.

I actually feel bad that I forgot all about KitKats, but I really really like them, too. More than I like Snickers, actually, and even more than Cadbury's Flake.
