It's great to know about the farmers' market experience from the vendor's point of view - thanks for the report, Nina. I've been back in Hong Kong for a few days and am starting to miss my weekly visits to the farmers' markets. Hope you'll have smashing success with your booth! :D

Yay! I'm glad to see a pic of your stand! And it does sound like you have the perfect neighbors. If my dream ever comes true and I do get to come and see the place, I think there will be more than enough food between the three stands to keep me happy :)

Cool! Yeah, I'd was considering a trip back east later in summer, but now with the market on Thursdays, I'll be tied to LA for a while.

Ha! I actually have quite a few family over there in venice and santa monica (she's the most recent NY to LA transplant, though my brother just moved up north towards central CA). Which means it's quite possible that we could meet one day (if you don't come back east first).

OMG, she was so nice! She mentioned that she heard about me on your blog, and my mind was so busy trying to figure out how an LA person was reading a NY blog that referred her to an LA confectioner that I didn't get around to actually asking her how she knew you!

Sku - I was thinking of that truffle place -- starts with a "G" -- I think they're based out of San Diego and sell Peruvian chocolates. Personally, I think it's different enough b/c I'll never sell truffles, but we'll see. I'm going to try to speak to the manager in person this Sunday w/ samples. It's good to hear that they're not there every week... :)

And yeah... what would be wrong with two chocolate vendors anyway??? :)

Really, a chocolate place in Hollywood? Must be one of the new ones...I seem to vaguely remember a new truffle type place with no samples, but maybe they aren't there every week.

I think soap and garment sellers should, as a rule, be bumped for chocolate. :)

Sweet Fine Day - Yeah, I should have been more specific -- you can get a permit to offer unwrapped samples prepped at the market, but it's $100 extra a quarter, so I figured that I wouldn't pay it b/c my products would probably be best preserved airtight anyway and usually don't take to cutting very well... not that I've developed any sort of love for wrapping them... geez, as if wrapping normal-sized things wasn't enough!

Marshmallows are either a cult thing or not, aren't they :)

I'm hoping that people were bargaining more on the day before July 3 b/c they were grumpy that they just paid rent and were still around there office during the lunch before a holiday... Hopefully they'll be more cheery this week.

Rainey - Yeah, I cleared up the pre-wrap thing above.

And I've never bargained with a vendor either! I just appreciate that they're there, and given that they're selling out of a temporary tent, I never feel the need to try to pay them less money.... If anything, I try to give extra...

And there are some jeans among the suits at Century City! Mall folk, maybe :)

Sku - You nailed it -- Hollywood is my top choice for my next market, and then Larchmont is my next choice. But... Hollywood already has a chocolatier, and Larchmont seems to have as many vendors as can be packed into that space.... so I'll probably have to be very persistent about it.

I definitely want to be in one more market for now, and then after that, once I can serve those both comfortably, I'd be happy to be in more and more. The other vendors around me that I've talked to at the market are each at 3-6 markets.
